"Upper Birdsong" is the charming name of a village and railway station in the southern suburbs of Dresden. The core of this blog is the diary of a two-week trip to Germany in August 2003. My mother's birth name of Leinbach figures largely in the account; the rest of the blog covers the universe.
Just to be sure this blog doesn't get wiped away with Google's latest shenanigans, and because I haven't posted anything on it since 2006, I'm making this token post in the hope that it will help the blog survive the upheaval.

Born in 1935, baptized into the Mennonite Church as an "adult" of 8 years old, learned that the word for some of my "differences" from my contemporaries was "gay," met my life's companion years later in New York City, reconnected with the Mennonites, moved to Boston (after a country sojourn with the Quakers), and among other joys and responsibilities became convenor of MennoNeighbors. What was the question again?
